Life at Zhishan

Tsinghua University is committed to providing comprehensive visa and immigration support to its international students and scholars. The International Students & Scholars Center (ISSC) serves as the primary resource for guidance on immigration procedures, visa applications, and residency requirements. Below is an overview of the essential visa and immigration information for prospective and current international students.

Visa Categories

1. X1 Visa

Purpose: Issued to individuals intending to study in China for periods exceeding 180 days.

Requirement: Holders must apply for a residence permit within 30 days of entering China to avoid illegal residency status.

2. X2 Visa

Purpose: Designated for those undertaking short-term studies in China, specifically for durations of 180 days or less.

Validity: The visa's validity period is specified on the visa itself.

Important Note: Entering China with a visa type other than X1 or X2 may impede the ability to obtain a student visa or residence permit, potentially affecting enrollment status. Students are advised to secure the appropriate visa prior to arrival.

Internship Regulations

International students seeking to engage in internships must adhere to the following protocol:

1. Approval from Academic Department: Obtain official consent from the respective school or department.

2. Internship Certification: Secure an invitation or certification letter from the prospective internship organization.

3. ISSC Authorization: Present the above documents to the ISSC for validation.

4. Residence Permit Annotation: Upon ISSC approval, proceed to the Entry-Exit Administration of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau to apply for an internship annotation on the residence permit.

Application Procedures

Upon acceptance into Tsinghua University, students will receive an admission package containing:
