From August 28 to 30, 2025, student representatives from Zhishan College had the privilege of attending the 2025 China International Big Data Expo (referred to as the “Big Data Expo”) in Guiyang, accompanied by faculty members. It was a valuable opportunity to step into the forefront of technology and feel the pulse of the times.
This year’s Expo, under the theme “Data Powers Industrial Momentum, Intelligence Unveils a New Chapter of Development,” showcased the latest achievements and application scenarios of big data and artificial intelligence integration. The students not only attended expert presentations from government, industry, and academia but also witnessed firsthand how data intelligence is reshaping countless industries.
One of the events, the “Digital Talent Cultivation” exchange session, was hosted by Tsinghua University. Faculty from Zhishan College played active roles: Prof. Meng Tian Guang, Party Committee Secretary of the School of Social Sciences (Zhishan’s supporting department) and mentor at Zhishan College, served as the host of the event. Academician Chen Song Xi, Director of the Department of Statistics and Data Science (another supporting department), delivered a keynote speech titled “Cultivating Data Science Talent.” Prof. Tang Ke, Dean of Zhishan College, moderated a roundtable discussion. Seeing their teachers share insights and guide discussions at such a high-level forum filled the students with pride and clarified their sense of responsibility and direction as young scholars in the digital age.
For the students, the Expo was like an open window offering a glimpse into a broader future. Yang Sihan reflected, “The Big Data Expo made me truly feel the power of innovation resonating with our times. It reminded me that to realize my value in the digital wave, I must break down disciplinary barriers, continuously practice, and keep reflecting.” Yu Zhenzhen shared, “This tech feast filled me with confidence in an intelligent future. AI is no longer just a concept; it’s tangibly changing our lives.” Yuan Zihan added, “I realized I cannot stay only at the theoretical level. I need to proactively learn data science, strengthen practical skills, truly engage with the industry, and become a versatile talent driving social progress.”
Though brief, this three-day journey to the Big Data Expo broadened the students’ horizons and strengthened their resolve. Data and intelligence are redefining our world, and we stand at the starting point of this thrilling era. May this experience serve as a new beginning for everyone to deepen their expertise, explore across boundaries, actively participate in the nation’s digital construction with concrete actions, and grow in sync with a digital-intelligent future.
